Governance for sustainable development is the capacity of public and private groups, those which exist and those which are necessary, to promote the transition towards sustainability, and to take group action.
This has been one of CADS working strategies right from the start. In the year 2000 it started up a joint project with the Institut Internacional de Governabilitat de Catalunya (IIG) [International Institute of Governability of Catalonia].
This collaboration has led to international seminars on governance, strategies and development institutions, among other initiatives.
CADS is currently working to strengthen institutions in Catalonia and governance in the area of sustainable development, encouraging the participation of a variety of social agents.
These is being done by providing advice to enable strategies to be designed for sustainable development at different levels (local, national and international) as well as through collaborations with organisations and business associations, professionals and academics in Catalonia.
Among the works published in this area of governance and strategies for sustainable development we would highlight:
- The advisory councils on the environment and sustainable development. Introductory aspects
- Governance for sustainable development: from theory to practice
- Agreement on access to information, participation and decision taking and access to justice on matters relating to the environment(Århus Convention)
- A strategy for sustainable development of the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion : basic guidelines
